Chocolate Lilies - Fitillaria biflora of the lily family: Liliacea
These purple brown bell shaped flowers bloom from late March, April & May. Along our coast from Baja California to Southern BC, they grow in open woodlands & grassy coastal meadows. Chocolate Lilies also thrive where there is moisture laden soil especially south facing habitats. They tolerate relatively poor rocky soil and as perennials, emerge in the spring from rice size bulbs.
